Character in Action

I had a really bad week!! It was like a nightmare that would never end but looking back now I'm choosing to view it as a Character Building experience.

I told you it was teacher appreciation week and Monday started off great. Two friends came over and we put together envelopes with a small gift in them and delivered them to the school. I babysat my nieces ~ Josh won a baseball game....I had a good nights sleep and then ~

WAM! Tuesday morning happened. I got a phone call asking questions about the plans for Teacher Appreciation week. Evidently what PTA drummed up wasn't good enough and a handful of teachers were upset about it. Long dramatic emails followed, tears flowed and dadgummit!!!!!!!!! I just don't get it.

Everyone wonders about kids today and why they are so ungrateful and have a "gimmie ~ gimmie ~ gimmie" attitude. I can tell you right now where they are getting it!!!! Who in their right mind complains about a gift? Who in the world would have the audacity to say, "You aren't making me feel special enough!"

Bottom line ~ PTA owes nothing to the staff and the whole year is about the kids. I just don't want the other 60 teachers to suffer the consequences of 6 morons!

What character do I need? Tough skin, the ability to smile during controversy instead of cry, and confidence that we are doing a good job. But hey, I'm still a work in progress!

Don't give up...the school year is almost over! And 95% of the teachers appreciate it...the squeakiest wheel gets the most oil.

"Speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men. For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. This is a faithful saying, and these things I want you to affirm constantly, that those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to men." ~ Titus 3:2-8

Oh, how I wish I could live up to this verse of scripture myself.

You did a great job Shaunna. Don't let the grumpy grumblers get to you. And yes, you are stronger because of this "test" in character.

Love you SO much,
Mommy
